Zinc and magnesium are the most searched minerals after calcium and iron. Zinc comes as tablets or children's syrups, often labelled zinc gluconate or organic zinc; magnesium is frequently paired with vitamin B6. When choosing, read the elemental amount per tablet and do not stack it on top of a multivitamin that already contains zinc or magnesium. Long-term high-dose zinc can lead to low copper, and too much magnesium can cause diarrhoea, so stick to the dose on the label. If you take antibiotics or long-term medication, ask a pharmacist how far apart to take them.
